Delhi weather: IMD forecast light rain in city today

NEW DELHI: Delhi witnessed a cloudy sky on Friday, with the weather department predicting the possibility of light showers and thunderstorms throughout the day.
A light drizzle occurred overnight in some areas and the minimum temperature was recorded at 22.8°C—1.8 degrees above the seasonal average.
As per data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Mayur Vihar received 5.0 mm of rain over the past 24 hours until 8:30 am, whereas Pritampura saw a lighter 1.0 mm. The main observatory at Safdarjung, however, noted only a trace amount of precipitation.
Humidity levels were measured at 68% at 8:30 am.
The weather department anticipates cloudy conditions to continue, with the mercury expected to climb to a high of around 37°C by the end of the day.
The light drizzle helped ease the heat, offering a break from the intense heatwave that had gripped the city in recent days.
Earlier in the week, Delhi experienced a significant spike in temperature, hitting 40°C on Monday for the first time this season—triggering a heatwave that lasted three straight days.
Adding to the unusual weather, the city recorded its warmest night in three years on Wednesday, with the temperature not dropping below 25.9°C. Meanwhile, the Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 172 at 9 am, placing it in the ‘moderate’ category.
