Hangama.com Movie Review: A romance loaded with light moments

Critic's Rating: 3.0
With Hangama.com, director Krishnendu Chatterjee sets out to deliver a lighthearted comedy centered around the age-old Ghoti-Bangal rivalry. At its core, the film is a fun take on the cultural divide, showcasing two households at odds – Birat Bhadra (Rajatava Dutta), whose ancestors hail from present-day Bangladesh, and Bankim (Kharaj Mukherjee), a staunch Ghoti who detests all things Bangal. However, when their children fall in love, they take it upon themselves to bridge the gap and bring their families together. What follows is a chaotic yet entertaining journey filled with laughter, misunderstandings, and heartwarming moments.
The cinematography by Pankaj Shill beautifully captures the charm of North Bengal, while Sanglap Bhowmik’s editing ensures that the comic timing lands effectively. The film is packed with quirky stock characters, exaggerated costumes, and humorous accents, all contributing to its slapstick appeal. While the physical comedy works well, the storyline remains largely predictable.
Rajatava Dutta and Kharaj Mukherjee deliver solid performances as the feuding patriarchs, but the real scene-stealer is Biswanath Basu as Ram Singh. His antics and well-timed dialogue exchanges, though occasionally crude, guarantee plenty of laughs. The stylish on-screen pairing of Bonny-Koushani is a visual treat, while Srabanti shines as Puja, and Om Sahani makes for a dashing romantic lead.
The soundtrack (composed by Savvy and Amit Mitra) is lively and infectious, with playful lyrics that linger—especially “O Baby Cutie Pie” and the soulful Tor E Sathe (sung by Sonu Nigam and Antara Mitra).
Though parts of the film feel rushed and the Ghoti-Bangal stereotypes may feel outdated, the second half picks up with ample comedic moments and an undeniable feel-good factor. Despite its clichés, Hangama.com makes for an enjoyable summer watch, best enjoyed for its humor and heart.
