Nayanthara has opened up about her attempts to reach out to Dhanush before posting her open letter on social media. In a recent interview, she admitted that, despite being someone who avoids asking for favours, she made numerous efforts to contact Dhanush and sought to mend their differences. The actress revealed that she is not angry with him, even after his legal team filed a civil lawsuit against her.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, the 'Jawan' star shared that their bond has deteriorated over time. Her husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, made numerous calls to Dhanush’s manager and several mutual friends in an effort to communicate with him. The couple later decided not to use the clip in question. "Both of us thought that it’s okay for him to not give the NOC because it’s his right. It’s his film. He has all the rights to say, ‘Use these clips’ or ‘Don’t use these clips,’” she shared.

However, Vignesh wanted to use four lines he had written for the film 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan', which were very personal to them. To include these lines in the documentary, both Nayanthara and Vignesh tried their best to reach out to Dhanush. “Those four lines would sum up our life and our love. That’s why it was so important for us to have those four lines, and that’s what we were trying to get," she stated.
Nayanthara detailed her efforts to resolve an apparent misunderstanding with Dhanush. Speaking about her uncharacteristic decision to approach his manager, she explained that she normally avoids seeking help or disturbing others. However, she felt it was crucial for the documentary project and believed her long-time friend (Dhanush) would readily support it.

Acknowledging their past camaraderie, the actress expressed confusion over how their relationship had changed over the past decade. She sought to have an open conversation with the 'Raayan' actor to clarify whether there was genuine anger, a misunderstanding, or external influences causing friction. Emphasizing her intent, she stated that she did not expect to rekindle their friendship but simply wanted to resolve differences for future cordial interactions. Despite her efforts, Nayanthara admitted she could not achieve the clarity she sought.
“But even when that didn’t happen, I wasn’t angry with him. I said, ‘It’s okay, leave it. Let's make another song.’ Vignesh made another song, he sang it, and he wrote the new lyrics," Nayanthara shared.
The controversy involving Nayanthara and Dhanush began when the actress released an open letter addressing the actor's decision to sue her for Rs 10 crore. The lawsuit pertained to her documentary 'Nayanthara: Beyond The Fairytale', which reportedly included footage from Dhanush’s production venture, 'Naanum Rowdy Dhaan'. According to Dhanush, the use of these clips was unauthorised. In response, the actress clarified that the footage featured in the documentary consisted of behind-the-scenes moments captured by the team on their mobile phones, rather than official material from the film.
A part of Nayanthara's open letter read, "A well-established actor like you, with the support and blessings of your father and your brother, an ace director, needs to read and understand this. Cinema as we all know is a fight for survival for people like me: a self made woman with no links in the industry and someone who had to struggle my way to the position I hold today. I'd owe this to my work ethic that is no secret to all who know me but more importantly, to the goodwill of the audience and my film fraternity.”
On the work front, Nayanthara will next be seen in 'Test' alongside Siddharth, R. Madhavan, and Meera Jasmine. It is directed by Sashikanth, and there are reports about the film making a direct OTT premiere.
