Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Hirani announce biopic on Dadasaheb Phalke days after reports about Jr NTR and SS Rajamouli’s project on same theme

Aamir Khan and acclaimed filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani are gearing up to collaborate for the third time after the success of their films 'PK' and '3 Idiots'. Their new venture is reportedly a biographical drama based on the life of Dadasaheb Phalke. Often hailed as the 'father of Indian cinema', Phalke’s remarkable journey remains largely unexplored on the big screen, especially in Hindi.



Official statement about the biopic

According to an official statement from Aamir Khan’s team, the actor will begin preparations following the release of his next film, 'Sitaare Zameen Par', scheduled for release on June 20. “VFX studios from LA have already created AI designs for the era and period of the film,” the statement noted.



Set during the era of India’s freedom struggle, the film promises to delve into Phalke’s early beginnings and trace his pioneering efforts in laying the foundation of the Indian film industry. Production is expected to commence in October 2025.

Rajkumar Hirani, along with Abhijat Joshi and two other writers, Hindukush Bharadwaj and Avishkar Bharadwaj, has been working on the script for the past four years. Phalke’s grandson, Chandrashekhar Srikrishna Pusalkar, has extended his full support for the film and provided significant anecdotes from Phalke’s life.

Recent reports suggest that 'RRR' filmmaker SS Rajamouli is set to collaborate with Jr NTR on a biopic of Dadasaheb Phalke. However, further confirmation regarding the South Indian project is still pending.
