Why does Rekha wear sindoor for Amitabh Bachchan? Hanif Zaveri claims they still have a soft corner for each other

Rekha’s love for Amitabh Bachchan is one of the most discussed topics in showbiz. It was recently revealed that the actress was invited to his house by Big B’s wife, Jaya Bachchan, for lunch, where she made it clear in front of Amitabh that he is her husband and that she would not let anyone else have him. This was a turning point in Rekha’s life, where she reportedly decided to leave Bachchan and get married.
According to senior author and film historian Hanif Zaveri, Rekha still loves Amitabh, as she expresses through various actions in public. However, her decision to move on from the relationship and marry industrialist Mukesh Agarwal was allegedly triggered by Jaya’s direct remark about claiming Big B forever.

“When she herself says that she still loves Bachchan, it is true. Rekha tried to stay away from him to a great extent. She even married an industrialist, Mukesh. The marriage didn't work out—he committed suicide. That’s a different story. But Rekha has decided that she is not going to marry Amitabh Bachchan, and Amitabh Bachchan has also made that decision. At their age, marriage is not in question. But still, from what I see and feel, I believe there is a soft corner for each other. And maybe this is what love is,” Zaveri shared.

When asked about Rekha’s vermilion (sindoor), which is often linked to Amitabh, Zaveri responded that whatever happens in her life, heart, and mind is entirely her choice, and she knows it best. However, when people notice such things, they tend to create stories about them. “But I would say that she is not so serious about it now. There is a softness—if something goes wrong with Amitabh Bachchan, she feels it shouldn’t happen. Similarly, if something happens to Rekha, Amitabh Bachchan also feels it shouldn’t happen to her. That is an attachment,” Hanif stated.

He further added that Jaya Bachchan’s serious nature and public displays of anger are remotely connected to Rekha. She wanted to assert her power and demonstrate her dominance over others.
