Twinkle Khanna opens up on people comparing her son and daughter's different skin colours: I decided I'm going to make sure she believes she is wonderful'

Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar who got married in 2001 have two children - Aarav and Nitara. While Nitara is their second child, at a recent event, the actress-turned-author opened up on her parenting experiences and how some stereotypes still exist in our society. The actress opened up on a chat with FICCI FLO as to how there were comparisons between her son and daughter's skin colour and how she made sure her daughter feels confident and wonderful about herself.


She said at the event, "I learnt a lot with my first child. And I think your first child tends to be that manual. You experiment a little bit on that child. With my second one, what I realised was that… I thought she looked like a normal Indian girl and there was always this comparison between her and her brother in skin colour or things like that. Things that exist in our country. And I decided that I am going to make sure that she believes she is absolutely wonderful, so if she has a unibrow, I told her that look you are as beautiful as Frida Kahlo, and she was as amazing and so are you. If she is brown, I would tell her that her skin is golden.”

Twinkle then had a really proud moment when her daugther felt awesome about her skin tone and said something. She added, "So eventually, one day, I think my proudest moment was when she was sitting with her brother and we were going to the beach and he was putting on sunblock. She said ‘I don’t really need so much sunblock because my skin is greater than yours’. And she said a white T-shirt gets dirty but a brown T-shirt doesn’t. You can’t see it so I am greater. So I thought that was a triumph."

At the moment, Akshay and Twinkle along with their kids Aarav and Nitara have jetted off for a family vacation for the New Year's eve and spend some quality time together.
