This Mother’s Day, the spotlight turns to Sudha Chandani Khatri—an engineer-turned-award-winning photographer—whose lens is reshaping how women, especially mothers, see themselves.Once a successful corporate professional, Sudha made a courageous pivot from engineering to photography, not for fame or fortune, but for purpose: to help women rediscover their identity beyond roles and responsibilities.
Today, Sudha is more than just a photographer. She’s a visual storyteller and an advocate for
self-love. Her signature style of magazine-inspired portraits celebrates women—particularly mothers over 40—as glamorous, confident, and powerful.
“Most women, especially mothers, become invisible in their own stories,” she says. “Through my work, I want to put them back in the frame—both literally and metaphorically.”
Her mission is rooted in her own transformative experience. As a teenager struggling with self-doubt, a single professional photograph changed how she saw herself. “That image altered everything. It was the first time I truly saw myself—not through the eyes of the world, but through my own.
That’s the gift I now want to pass on to other women.”
For the first time in India, Sudha curated an exhibition celebrating real women through powerful portraits and personal stories. These everyday heroes were honored alongside their families, transforming the space into a tribute of strength and self-worth. It wasn't just art — it was a movement to make every woman feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
In just a few years, Sudha’s artistry has gained global acclaim. With 37 international awards under her belt, features in elite photography publications like Rangefinder and The Portrait Masters, and prestigious roles as Canon India’s influencer and Profoto’s mentor, she is fast becoming a name to reckon with in the global photography community. She’s also been invited to judge beauty pageants that challenge traditional standards of beauty.
Her shoots include Bollywood and Kannada cinema stars—from Karisma Kapoor, Gul Panag and Shehnaaz Gill to Deepika Das and Kavitha Gowda. Yet, Sudha’s true muse remains the everyday woman, often sidelined by motherhood and societal expectations.
This Mother’s Day,
Sudha Chandani Khatri reminds us that beauty isn’t reserved for the red carpet—it’s found in every woman who dares to reclaim her space and see herself with love.
