Announcing the news with an Instagram post, Spence shared a picture with the caption, "GO BLUE". The rising star was the Erie Otters of the OHL (Ontario Hockey League) for three seasons. During this, he totalled 177 points in 195 regular season games. The social media handle of Michigan Hockey's Future also shared the news, detailing his achievements. They wrote, "A second elite CHL piece has committed to @umichhockey! Malcolm Spence is a star forward who played 3 years in Erie (OHL) and is expected to be a 1st round draft pick in this summer’s #NHLDraft. He’s won gold for Canada at the Hlinka-Gretzky & U18 Worlds. They also added, "The talented 6’2” Left Wing racked up 72G + 118A for 190 points in 210 games with Erie, and he’s been an alternate captain for the past two years. He was 1 of just 2 skaters (M.
