Brock Boeser's future with the Canucks is steadily and intensely being in speculation as free agency draws closer. With reports suggesting that he might walk away rather than take a lower offer, questions are being raised about whether the club has handled the contract situation well. As July 1 becomes nearer, the likelihood that Boeser will go to the open market is increasing, which may call for planning on what to do without one of its star forwards.
Vancouver Canucks Race Tough Decision over Brock Boeser's Contract
Brock Boeser has long been a mainstay in the offense of the Vancouver Canucks, but today, he is 28 years old and finds himself in an uncertain situation. General Manager Patrik Allvin's recent comments, however, had analysts and fans alike wondering whether the commitment was still alive. Instead of going the route of trading Boeser at the NHL's trade deadline of March 7, Canucks went to place him on their shelves as his own "rental" player, even though other teams had expressed interest.
Interestingly, Allvin said that the offers for Boeser had not been well received by the club regarding such comments. NHL Insider Frank Seravalli recently said that Boeser would probably rather sign elsewhere for a bit less than stay "undervalued" for one more year with the Canucks. While not having a season that has come anywhere close to his 40 goals, 73 point effort in 2023-24, Boeser is still among the top scorers and is on pace to finish the next season with 20 or more goals, making him a big ticket item in free agency. If he goes, Vancouver will have to find a new way to wheel in the profit and could trade or sign another free agent.
Tocchet On Brock Boeser Contract
Canucks will definitely have many options in free agency including Nikolai Ehlers, Taylor Hall, and Patrick Kane. At least these two names will not be with any franchise if they fail to re-sign with their current teams. Still, losing Boeser without a replacement would create a huge void in the franchise, mindful of the margin required to replace a player who brings regular goals.
