Williams driver Alex Albon has said Thailand is very serious about hosting a Formula 1 race. After F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, Albon also met Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra to discuss the prospects of his home country hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix in future. Albon mentioned that Formula 1 has a massive, ever-growing reach among the younger generation in Thailand, and they are “not casual viewers” like in other countries.

Alex Albon on how Thailand is becoming an F1-loving nation

Talking about the popularity of F1 in Thailand, Alex Albon told Skysports.com, "It's not the most followed sport out there, the Premier League is, but we can do a good job and inspire people there, not just drivers but engineers, mechanics, people in marketing. There's a huge young generation. I was blown away by the amount of people there when we had a meeting."
"When I think about 2019 to where we are now, it's more than triple, quadruple its size. It's about how we can build the hype and fascination for F1. We've seen how Formula 1 has made its way to a younger and more diverse population. It's still in that beginning phase. The majority of people who are interested in Formula 1 aren’t your casual viewers, which you’re getting in other countries," he further added.
Albon also said that he was following the progress of the project. “If you see the project, you’ll see how serious they are. I can say that," he said.

Alex Albon’s F1 career

Alex Albon is the son of British racing driver Nigel Albon. His mom is Thai, and he races under the Thai flag. He is the second Thai driver to compete in Formula One after Prince Birabongse Bhanudej, who competed in 1954. He began his F1 career with Toro Rosso in 2019 and moved to Red Bull soon after, before joining Williams in 2022.
