Elon Musk responded to the Saturday Night Live (SNL) after the show aired a satirical sketch featuring James Austin Johnson as
Donald Trump and Mikey Day as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Taking to X, Musk sharply countered the segment, writing, “Humour fails when it lies.”
The skit mocked Trump’s recent meeting with Zelenskyy, also included an unexpected cameo by Mike Myers as Musk himself. It began with Trump, the president and CEO of Gaza hotel and casino, welcoming Ukrainian president Zelenskyy to the ‘incredible trap.’
Elon Musk Cold Open - SNL
Ever since Trump began his second tenure as the US president, Musk could be seen by his side, attending the first cabinet meeting.
In the skit, the tech mogul entered the screen while Trump was mocking Zelenskyy’s outfit, calling him out for dressing like a ‘garbage person’ showing up in a shirt and jeans. Elon, also, in a black t-shirt, jeans and a blazer entered with a chainsaw and then proceeded to ask the president what he was doing in “his office.”
The skit also drew inspiration about the Ukrainian leader from a previous interection with the media sitting alongside Vance, when he was questioned about not wearing a suit.
"You're the highest level in this country's office and you refuse to wear a suit. Just want to see if you do own a suit."
Zelenskyy, known for his military-style clothing, responded by asking if the reporter had an issue with his outfit. He then explained that he would wear a
kostium (Ukrainian for suit) after the war.
"I don't have such office. I will wear costume after this war will finish. Yes. Maybe. Maybe something like yours. Yes. Maybe something better. I don't know. We will see. Maybe something cheaper than this," he said.
The skit also took a dig at various issues like mass firings since Elon Musk became the head of department of government efficiency and roll back of the DEI initiative.
Soon after Musk’s response, the social media gave divided opinions with some supporting his view and others defending SNL’s brand of political satire.
‘Make SNL funny again,’ wrote one person, while another called out Musk, “Are you triggered, snow flake?”
The episode marked SNL’s return after its highly successful SNL50: The Anniversary Special, which aired on 16 February and drew 14.8 million live viewers.
SNL has long been known for its biting political sketches and this isn’t the first time he has clashed with the show.
