LUCKNOW: An FIR was lodged against folk singer Neha Singh Rathore at Hazratganj police station for allegedly making objectionable remarks on social media regarding the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 people, mostly tourists.
Neha Singh Rathore, known for her folk songs and political commentary, allegedly used her Twitter handle (@NehaSinghRathore) to post videos and statements questioning the deaths of the innocent victims in the Pahalgam attack. The posts reportedly made provocative statements that challenged the sanctity of the victims' deaths, inciting division along religious lines.
The FIR, filed by renowned poet Abhay Pratap Singh alias Abhay Singh ‘Nirbhik', alleges that Rathore's remarks were not only inappropriate but also anti-national.
The complaint further alleges that her statements went viral in Pakistan, where they were praised by individuals and media outlets who viewed her comments as critical of India. Rathore's posts are reportedly being used by Pakistani media to fuel negative narratives against India.
The FIR said that Rathore's posts had a harmful impact on national integrity, inciting public unrest and weakening communal harmony. It also claims that her comments were designed to provoke violence between different communities, posing a threat to peace and law and order in the country.
SHO, Hazratganj, Vikram Singh, said that based on the serious nature of the accusations, Hazratganj police registered the FIR under various sections of the BNS, including sedition, as well as charges of promoting enmity between different communities and other provisions related to creating public disturbance and inciting violence.
