KRISHNAGAR: Tapas Saha, a Trinamool Congress MLA representing Tehatta constituency in Nadia district, passed away on Thursday morning at a Kolkata hospital. The 66-year-old legislator succumbed to a brain haemorrhage.
The MLA was taken to a private healthcare facility situated off the EM Bypass in the eastern metropolis on Tuesday after he suddenly collapsed. Despite receiving medical treatment, his health condition worsened.Party sources confirmed that Saha's death occurred in the early hours of Thursday. The news of his demise created a sombre atmosphere throughout the political circles in Nadia.The announcement brought profound sadness among party workers, supporters and local residents.

TMC MLA from Chapra and senior party figure Rukbanur Rahman mentioned that numerous district-level leaders were heading towards Kolkata."He was admitted on Tuesday after suffering a cerebral stroke. He passed away this morning. The final rites will be decided in consultation with Tapas da's family and the party," he said. Saha, recognised for his strong connection with the common people, was among the founding members of the Trinamool Congress and maintained a close association with party chief Mamata Banerjee.
Following the denial of a ticket from Tehatta constituency in 2011, he chose to contest independently, which resulted in his temporary removal from the party.The party subsequently reinstated him, and he successfully secured victory from Palashipara constituency in 2016 whilst representing TMC.He contested from Tehatta in 2021 and emerged victorious, securing his position as an MLA for a second successive term.
