'Can’t wait forever’: Pregnant wife of BSF jawan in Pakistan’s custody to board Amritsar Mail, hunt for answers

Rajani, wife of BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw detained by Pakistan Rangers, plans to travel to Firozpur and potentially Delhi to seek information about her husband's well-being after 72 hours of silence. Despite being pregnant and initial discouragement, she received permission to travel, fueled by anxiety after seeing a photograph of a blindfolded Purnam released by Pakistan. State government officials have assured the family of their support in pursuing the case with the Centre.

RISHRA: Distraught with the absence of any reassuring news of her husband from senior officers, BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Shaw's wife Rajani stated she would take the Amritsar Mail on Sunday to go to Firozpur via Pathankot to seek answers. Purnam was taken into custody by Pakistan Rangers after he strayed across the border while on duty on Wednesday.

Though the commanding officer of the battalion initially tried to dissuade Rajani from travelling to Firozpur, as she's pregnant and the force was discussing his release with Pakistan authorities, she later received permission to do so. Rajani's two sisters and a cousin brother will accompany her.
"I cannot sit and wait here till eternity. I have not heard from him for over 72 hours now. If I don't get help there, I will go to Delhi and seek answers from the PMO," she said, adding that her anxiety grew since she saw a photograph of a blindfolded Purnam that Pakistan released. Purnam's mother Devanti Devi also voiced her distress: "I just want my son to return safely."
