Two arrested for cruelty to stray dog

Panaji:Old Goa police have arrested two people for assaulting a stray dog after a video was widely circulated on social media recently, showing the two assailants hitting the dog with a wooden stick.A complaint was filed by Stephen Samuel, a field officer with the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA), against two unidentified people. The assault caused grievous injuries to the stray dog. Old Goa police registered an offence under various sections of the BNS and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.During the investigation, CCTV footage of the locality was checked, and the accused were identified as Jogindar Singh, 32, a driver by occupation, residing at Old Goa, and Anil Kumar, 28, a native of UP, residing at Old Goa. The accused were arrested on Monday and released on bail after furnishing surety.Further investigation is in progress under the supervision of PI Old Goa Vijaykumar Chodankar.
