Siemens said that it is trying to expand the local ecosystem of suppliers as it looks to meet the growing demand for smart electrical and smart automation products.
“We have five factories in Goa, which is a huge commitment to the state. We are also expanding our capacities in the state in a big way. It is our wish to expand the local supply chain ecosystem so that the MSMEs can be part of our business,” said Mahendra Wani, general manager and location head at Siemens Goa.
The capacity expansion is the largest investment by Siemens in Goa. The factory is manufacturing state-of-the-art gas insulated switchgear and clean air GIS (Blue GIS) technologies. “Siemens is making a Rs 330 crore investment in factory expansion with additional investment in R&D for products for the global market. It is a hardcore electronics design that will happen here,” said Wani.
Siemens Limited had informed its shareholders in May 2024 that it would be making an investment of Rs 333 crore in Goa over the next few years.
“The factories we have over here are part of the global hub, and this is a manufacturing location that is supporting very critical infrastructure across the world. We are supporting the world from this location,” he said.
Around 45 companies showed interest in becoming supply partners for Siemens. The German company supplies products to sectors such as data centres, metro rail, oil and gas, steel, transmission, and distribution to meet their sustainability goals.
“For growth, we need good suppliers, good collaborators in areas where there is high demand. Our factories focus on electrification, smart automation, and smart infrastructure,” said Stefan Ritzler, head strategic procurement protection and automation at Siemens.
